Glutathione is a tri-peptide that is sometimes referred to as "Reduced Glutathione". A peptide is a molecule composed of two or more amino acids. Glutathione is composed of the three amino acids L-Cysteine, Glycine, and L-Glutamic Acid. Whole proteins (chains of 50 or more amino acids) must be broken down by digestion in order to be absorbed by the body. It appears that some small peptides (chains of 2 or 3 amino acids) can be absorbed without further reduction. There is much debate as to the effectiveness of taking peptides instead of free amino acids.
